Every time a brand sends an SMS marketing message to a consumer, that consumer’s mobile messaging data rates apply. This means that whatever the consumer pays to receive or send a text message will apply when they receive SMS communication from a brand. But most people have an unlimited SMS data plan so this only applies to a small portion of consumers.

What is Free to End User Messaging?

Free to end user messaging (FTEU), is when the brand will pay the cost of the message for the consumer. The brand will pay more per text message directly to each wireless carrier for this type of feature. As a result, the wireless carrier waives the fee for the consumer to receive that message. This is great for certain industries where you can’t charge the consumer to receive an automated text message, no matter what type of text messaging plan they are on.
