Lost Your SMS Coupon? Target Has an Innovative Solution

Target Store and Logo

Target realizes that even though text messaging gets a 99% open rate, and 90% of all text messages are read within 3 minutes, that doesn’t mean that every customer is ready to redeem their SMS coupon when it’s sent out. To resolve this issue, Target has come up with a unique solution to remind SMS subscribers that they still have an SMS coupon waiting to be redeemed.

What Target has done is schedule a text message to be sent to SMS subscribers, 3 days before the SMS coupons that they previously received expire. To increase engagement, Target requires that if you lost your SMS coupons, respond back with the word “Offers” to the Target short code 827-438. You can see an example of this SMS interaction in the screenshot below.

As you can see above, when an SMS subscriber responds to the text message with the word “Offers”, they’re sent back a link to retrieve their lost SMS coupons. How cool is that?

Target is not new to SMS marketing, as they’ve actually run some pretty successful SMS marketing campaigns in the past. Two of the SMS marketing campaigns they’ve run in the past we’ve written about, which you can read below.
