What Is SMS Short Code Hosting?

First, it’s important to understand that a short code is a five- to six-digit phone number used by brands to communicate with their customers. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and other major wireless carriers developed short codes as an alternative to regular 10-digit mobile phone numbers.

When a brand wants to start text message marketing, they’ll need to find someone to provide (host) a short code. Usually, a short code can either be provided by an SMS aggregator or an SMS software provider like Tatango. The SMS short code provider will take the responsibility of managing all of the technical aspects of hosting a short code.

Simply, SMS short code hosting is the process that allows brands and organizations to lease and send messages from a short code.
