Last week Tatango released an infographic about text message spam, which raised a few eyebrows throughout the industry. My take is that the majority of text message spam is caused by SMS providers who allow their clients to import non opt-in mobile phone numbers into SMS campaigns. For a little background, read my article on the death of SMS marketing.
The question though is why do SMS providers allow this to happen, especially when it causes so much of the spam. It’s pretty simple, “It’s All About The Benjamins”. Head over to Mobile Marketing Watch to see how much more revenue is generated for SMS providers that allow this practice.
