Your candidate has officially filed to run, but now what? As you’re gearing up for the primaries, you know there are major things you need to be focused on: namely, fundraising. But, throw in candidate travels, media appearances, events, and more, there’s a lot going on in January-April.
If you’re one of the 31 states who have primary election dates in May-June, you need an SMS fundraising platform partner like Tatango. And you need them like yesterday. Because text message marketing takes a bit of time and effort upfront to get ready to send a message to your audience, it’s important to have ample time to prepare your SMS platform before campaign events really begin in earnest.
Once the campaign starts sending texts regularly to your supporters, you will become more comfortable with the platform. Tatango won’t set you up with your code and go silent. We will check in with you to see if you need help, give tips for best practices and help you optimize your efforts.
In our 14 years of experience, we’ve worked with the nation’s top political candidates and organizations and we’ve found a few things that work best as you prepare for the primaries. In this video, you will learn the top 3 things you need to prep in this quarter as you gear up for primaries elections next quarter.
- The first thing you want to do is continuously be working on growing your list. You need to be asking for this in campaign speeches, at media appearances. You can remind people to opt-in by posting about it on Facebook, in emails, and more.
- Determine how you want to segment your list: do you need to tag your volunteers, registered voters, etc in preparation for an upcoming primary? Getting this prepared ahead of time saves you time when it matters.
- Build out your content calendar. Again, this step will save you time when primaries begin in earnest. Make some notes on what type of text you’re going to send when, or get really detailed with it and plan the texts, images, and donation links in advance. You need to be texting your supporters so that your campaign is always top of mind.
We know the primaries are an insanely busy season not only for the candidate but also for the campaign staffers. As you’re gearing up for the primaries, you know there are major things you need to be focused on: namely, fundraising. And if you want to raise record-breaking donations, you need to be doing some prep work right now: grow your list, segment it and build out your content calendar.
