Sprint Goes Social To Block AT&T Takeover

It looks like Sprint is trying to get social support in blocking the takeover of T-Mobile by AT&T. Recently a Facebook page and an entire website has been setup with the help of Sprint to encourage consumers to voice their concerns. It seems like it’s working too, there are already 44,591 people that like the Facebook page.

Below are the four reasons why Sprint claims the AT&T takeover of T-Mobile doesn’t make sense. What do you think? Do you even care if T-Mobile gets swallowed up by AT&T?

  1. Reduces Competition – If AT&T takes over T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon would have over four-and-a-half times the market share of the next biggest competitor.
  2. Not About Spectrum – Acquiring T-Mobile won’t increase AT&T’s geographic reach – the networks almost entirely overlap.
  3. Hurts the Industry – The takeover of T-Mobile by AT&T would eliminate the competitive market forces that help regulate price and encourage innovation, putting the smaller and regional carriers at the mercy of the duopolists.
  4. Hurts the American Economy – The proposed takeover will eliminate stores, jobs, back offices and marketing spending.
