It’s reported by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) that Canadians sent and received 2.8 billion short code text messages in 2011. That’s nearly 4% of all the total text messages (78 billion) sent during 2011 for Canadians.
In general, Canadian text messaging volumes are up almost 40% from 2010, when they sent 56.4 billion text messages. The number of personal text messages sent every year has nearly quadrupled since 2008 and is up nearly 20 times over 2006’s total volume of 4.3 billion text messages.
On a side note, Canadians sent 326.7 million MMS messages during 2011.
