Foursquare Uses Text Messaging To Increase App Downloads

Foursquare Mobile App Download Page

Foursquare is one of the ever-growing numbers of large brands to be jumping on the mobile app landing page bandwagon. Incorporating text messages into your mobile app marketing plan is a great way to increase app downloads, since it makes the Foursquare app easier to download.

Foursquare is currently in the A/B testing phase, alternating between Facebook to download and text-to-download on their homepage, but if you’re interested in checking it out, and it doesn’t instantly give you the landing page, you can find it here.

This download-to-text feature is a win-win for both Foursquare and their customers. Text-2-download makes it easy to get the Foursquare app directly by text message, without having to search for it on the web, or download it from your computer first and then to your smartphone, and because it’s so easy, it helps Foursquare increase their app downloads.

Once you’ve given Foursquare your cell number, a text with their long code number, +1 (347) 494-0946, and a direct link to the app store will be sent to you momentarily. Click the link provided in the text message and that’s it. No detective work needed.

While many places, like us here at Tatango, are using a 5 or 6 digit short code, Foursquare is using a long code for their text messages, which makes sense when you consider Foursquare is trying to catch an increasing amount of international users to increase their app downloads. In fact, 7 percent of Foursquare users come from both Indonesia and Mexico.

What other companies have you seen using text messages to increase the amount of  downloads for their mobile apps? Let us know in the comment section below. Be sure to share the link to their mobile app landing page so we can check them out. Thanks!
