I’ve heard from numerous people in the Seattle area over the last 10 minutes that they’ve received the following text message claiming to be from Wells Fargo. This text message isn’t from Wells Fargo, this is a text message scam and should be ignored.
This message is from what we in the industry call a long code. Through service like Twilio, text message scammers can quickly buy local phone numbers (long codes) and send text messages to random phone numbers, without any approvals, opt-in requirements, audits, etc. To find out more about why spammers love long codes so much, check out this article I wrote for Mobile Marketing Watch last month.
Have you received this text message, let us know in the comments section below. Has anyone outside of the Seattle area also received this text message?
Sorry. No data so far.
