SMS Acquisition: Waterfall Acquires Archer

Waterfall Acquires Archer Mobile

It was recently announced that Waterfall has acquired Archer Mobile, or more specifically the mobile marketing services division of Archer USA Inc. Waterfall is the fourth SMS provider to acquire another SMS provider in the last two years, making it very apparent that there’s a consolidation effort happening in the SMS marketing space as of lately. It’s interesting to note that Archer Mobile was originally iLoop Mobile, until a name change in 2012, after the merger of iLoop into a subsidiary of Lenco Mobile in 2011,  for approximately $42 million in cash and securities.

As we said above, this is the fourth SMS marketing provider to be acquired in the last two years, starting with the acquisition of Mozes by ePrize in January of 2014. Then only a month later, it was discovered that Callfire had acquired EzTexting. Then more recently, Signal was acquired by BrightTag in May of 2014.

With the acquisition, Waterfall will leverage Archer’s solutions to power all varieties of mobile initiatives, including innovative video processing, real-time, rich-media message personalization, enterprise-grade messaging gateways, and secure, encrypted delivery capabilities.

This is what Matt Sechrest, CEO of Waterfall had to say about the acquisition.

“By acquiring one of the original mobile marketing pioneers and its widely acknowledged leading team of mobile experts, we will further accelerate our market growth. The acquisition is a natural evolution of our business as we actively select strategic partnerships and acquisitions to help our clients drive mobile customer engagement across the entire customer journey. The Archer team, its innovative approach to mobile messaging and partner ecosystem make this acquisition a perfect fit, and we look forward to building an industry powerhouse.”
