I realize the green movement is basically a fashion statement now and it seems like everyone is telling you to “go green”. You probably recycle your papers, take the bus to work and have a few re-usable grocery bags, and that’s great. But being environmentally friendly is not a choice anymore, it is a responsibility and there is much more you can do to make your home and business eco friendly.
GO PAPERLESS- By using Freshbooks.com, “The Leader in Online Billing and Bookkeeping”, you can save time and paper. They offer all kinds of helpful resources to help your business run smoothly.
BUILD GREEN-Approximately 17.5 percent of the nations CO2 emissions through heating and power consumption come from commercial buildings. Save the planet and earn tax credits. Just go to Boreggosolar.com, they provide a free site evaluation and can have the solar updates installed in a matter of days.
Here are some other adjustments to reduce the impact of your company’s carbon footprint.
* Buy materials close to your location to support local economies and reduce transportation costs.
* Install a pervious concrete parking lot so the rainwater goes straight through. This reduces cost because you don’t have to worry about storm water management systems.
* Do not heat stairwells
* Use paint and sealants that have low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound)
INNOVATE- Print on recycled paper and email documents instead of sending them in the mail. If you can make whatever you are selling “green”, all you have to do it advertise your environmental sensitivity, and viola, there’s your marketing.
GET SOME PLANTS- They soak up the emissions from computers, produce oxygen, and add some flair to your office space. A smart choice would be native and drought tolerant plants which do not need pesticides.
GIVE RECYCLED BUSINESS GIFTS- Promote business and improve relationships with partners and clients by giving a green gift. Ebay has a great site called worldofgood.com that provides goods in four categories; people positive, eco friendly, animal friendly and support a cause.

So there you have it; five ways to save the planet. Once you have these under control, go out there and search for even more ways to make a difference.
