Keywords are one of the most useful tools in text message marketing. Below we explain the two different types of keywords that Tatango offers and how to use them to achieve the best results!

Join Keyword – This type of keyword is used when you wish for someone to join a group that you have set up. When a user texts the keyword that you have designated for your group, they will be sent a custom message which you will have created during the set-up process. At the bottom of this text message which you have customized, Tatango will automatically insert “Reply Y to join this group”. When a user replies with “Y”, Tatango will send them a standard opt in message that is required by the carriers with opt out information.

* To put a group member that texts a specific keyword into a sub group, in Step 4 select “Advanced Options” to set this feature.

* If a member is already part of the group they try to join, the member will receive the first part of the message but will not be able to join again.

Info Keyword – This type of keyword is used when you wish to only send information back to a members mobile phone. This type of keyword does NOT allow a member to join your group and doesn’t record this members phone number anywhere in your group. When a member texts the keyword that you have designated for your group, they will be sent a custom message which you will have created during the set-up process. This is the end of the interaction between your group and the member.
