Just a friendly reminder, it’s never a good idea to translate the numbers in your SMS marketing short code into letters. As you can see in this Starbucks ad, they’ve displayed the short code 697289 as “MYSBUX”. The reason you don’t want to spell out your short code is that SMS marketing is already a new concept.

OfficeMax needs to realize that different mediums require different types of ad copy. I received the following text message from OfficeMax earlier this month, with a staggering 16 character coupon code. Obviously consumers can use the copy/paste function, but for a mobile, this coupon code length seems extremely excessive.

You would think after a post entitled iLoop Ignoring Details Renders SMS Campaign Useless, iLoop would review their text messages before they send them out. This isn’t the case with their text message campaign sent out today.

Our good friend over at Mollie In Seattle sent us the following SMS call to action fail from Lucky Mag. While this “Text to Buy” idea is awesome, the verbiage in the call to action is horrible. There are a few things wrong here.

Chipotle, has anyone ever told you that only 40% of the U.S. has a smartphone? If so, why the heck do you keep sending out SMS marketing campaigns that aren’t accesible to the 60% of your customers that don’t have smartphones?
